Near the beginning, the author refers to the democrat convention of 1968.

Insofar as that is a caress mistake at best, I’ll assume facts are not a priority, either.

We didn’t want El Baradei. Where did you get that from?

Agreed: stupid mistake referring to it as the 1969 Democratic Convention

If you search for articles from the time of the beginning of the Egyptian “twitter” revolution you can see El Baradei was being promoted as an up and coming leader in Egypt. He had all the right credentials. He worked for the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) 97-09, which means he was in charge of looking for WMD’s in Iraq from Saddam. The ones Saddam used against his own people that his organization couldn’t find. He received a Nobel Peace prize in 2005. During that time he called for an investigation of Bush. In 2010 in a speech at Harvard Kennedy school of Government he said he was looking for a job. His party was the National Association for Change. (Change… where have we heard that before?)

All the right qualifications to be in the in crowd with Obama

I am a former FSO and have some contacts who are intimately familiar with the situation in Egypt. The only real institution in the country that we trust is the military. We were trying to use them as the power brokers. El Baradei was never considered a viable choice because he was an outsider and had no real political roots in Egypt. He couldn't put together any kind of coalition.

The idea that Obama wanted to be some sort of puppetmaster in Egypt is ludicrous. The problem is that Obama has lacked the leadership to get involved. He has been AWOL on Egypt letting the country drift into control of the MB.

This has upset Israel, which now faces an increased security threat due to the now porous border between Egypt and the Gaza strip. This allows for the movement of arms and people. And Obama has angered the Saudis who were not happy with the failure of the US to support an old ally, Mubarak. And the rise of the MB does not bode well for political stability in the Kingdom. Morsi's visit to Iran was not viewed favorably. It was the first visit by an Egyptian leader in decades.

I cannot and will not debate your expertise of the situation on the ground in Egypt. But that does not mean that Obama and company were not dumb enough to try it. In hindsight they can see how stupid it was but liberals/socialists are not known for their mental capacity. They are renowned for their feelings, maybe it was all Hillary and the state dept, with Obama’s blessing. Too many coincidences to be anything else. The whole twitter training and software and the media calling it the twitter revolution.

"While there appears to be nothing in common between the Muslim Brotherhood and the Tea Party both in their own way achieved the same objective. The Tea Party during the 2010 elections caused Obama to lose his complete control of the government. The Muslim Brotherhood in 2011 stopped Obama and Hillary’s State Department from complete control of Egypt’s government."

Initially, Obama sent Amb Frank Wisner to Egypt with the express purpose of trying to shore up Mubarak. No doubt this was partly due to pressure from the Saudis who didn't want us to grease the skids for Mubarak. And then Obama had second thoughts.

Obama Administration Distances Self From Own Envoy to Mubarak

The Obama administration on Saturday distanced itself from comments about Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak made by a man the president had used as an envoy to Mubarak just days before.

Saying he was speaking for himself, former U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Frank Wisner said at a security conference in Munich, Germany, that "President Mubarak remains utterly critical in the days ahead as we sort our way toward the future."

Wisner said that Mubarak "must stay in office in order to steer those changes through. … This is an ideal moment for him to show the way forward."
