In the mega church I attend they distribute lists of comparison the candidates supports, but I hear lots of poli-talks, “how can you be thinking Christian if you still vote for their guy” in the church’s courtyard after every service.
Every true church should throw the 501(c)3 exemption in the trash and then feel (and be) free to say whatever they want.
If Christians are giving for a deduction, or their giving is limited unless they get a decuction, they have mixed motives for giving at best, and it will count for nothing.
Jesus said to not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing when it comes to giving.....or something like that.....all giving out of a selfish motive will be burned up and lost. I Corin. 3:12 - 15
“During Reconstruction, black communities established their own churches, primarily Baptist, throughout the South. Many of those who emerged as black political leaders were ministers, empowered by their literacy and by their prominent role in building the black churches which served as the first forums for collective political organizing. “

We talk politics freely in my Sunday School class. It’s only opinions.
That was powerful. Thank you for posting that.
It’s sarcasm but it’s also true. They don’t fear because then know nothing will be done about it. With that said, I do wish white prostestants would speak out. And you know it’s money that stops them.
What I don’t understand is why would a church have to pay taxes? If the church is making a profit something’s wrong. At the end of the year if there’s money left it wouldn’t be difficult to find someone who needs some help. Zero out the books and no taxes will be due.
Might be intimidation and harassment - violation of civil rights. Wouldn’t hurt for a bunch of ministers to sue him in various courts. Make the harassment expensive.
You’re assuming that the issue is income tax. It likely has more to do with property taxes.
The one that I attend was built in 1948 on the town’s main street in the business district. If property taxes were assessed as if it were a business, it’d be in the range of at least 100k/yr. It’d bust the congregation.
Thanks Political Junkie Too.
If he is a real cleric then I must be the King of England!
