We have a president bent on taking down the economy and fossil fuels, and now we conveniently have a horror story about how diesel fuel, the core energy source for our trucking industry, is the moral equivalent of a Nazi gas chamber poison, it’ll even get your kids. In propaganda wars there is a principle called bracketing. You condition the public against some target at a subrational, purely emotive level, by surrounding the target with strong negative emotional signals. And what could be more negative than “diesel fumes = Nazi poison gas.” Presto, the same agency supposedly responsible for crimes against humanity gets to cram even more crushing regulation down the throat of the trucking industry. Pardon the expression, but something doesn’t smell right here.
