A pet is a critter who owes their existence to its owner.
Without an owner they would starve, go hungry, be cold and die.
The 47% !
Unfortunately, Mitt has fallen victim to the Liberal meme that anyone who is part of the 47% will vote for B.O. I am part of the 47%. I made some pretty stupid financial choices as a young person. I lost over half of my inheritance and half of my IRA in 08. So, at this point, as a retired senior, I am “dependent” on my SS which is under $800.00 per month. Someone needs to clue Mitt in. Most of those who make up the 47% are elderly and/or retired. But we still pay taxes: just not income taxes.
“There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what.
And I mean the President starts off with 49, 49…he starts off with a huge number. These are people who pay no income tax. 47% of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect.
What I have to do is convince the 5% to 10% that are independents, that are thoughtful, that look at voting one way or another depending upon in some cases emotion, whether they like the guy or not.”
As you can see, and I have no way of knowing if the transcript is exactly as the words were spoken, Romney was expressing a few different, though related, thoughts.
One is that 47% is Obama’s base of support. That base is made up of statists who hold a victim mentality.
The second is that that percentage is the same as those not paying income tax, and a message of lower income tax rates won't reach those people.
The last is that he must try to reach the 5- 10% who can be persuaded.
These are hardly controversial ideas.
To be fair, Romney in the video says they don’t pay income taxes. He didn’t say they don’t pay taxes at all.
I’m sorry to hear about your situation, and I’m sure he would be too.
