It’s about time for Newt to hit the talk circuit addressing the media. Smack ‘em around for not looking into Obama’s background and policies.

Pound ‘em!!

Obama believes that the 47% that sit home on their butts, pay no taxes, refuse to contribute to the country, and who suck up welfare are the best people in America. He believes it for re-election purposes only.

Romney knows the entitlement crowd will stick with obama for the obama bucks and the freebies. The left hates it when the truth is told.

People WANT to think of themselves as part of the 53%. The 47% Romney’s talking about is always some other guy.

You guarantee that you see yourself as part of the 53% by voting for Romney, not by being angry with Romney and voting for Obama when you weren’t necessarily considering it strongly.

George Allen’s Macaca moment happened when he continued to apologize profusely after the first time, and then dropped out of the race.

I suspect most people realize that this is just to motivate his base. It is the same as Obama's 99% vs. 1%, tax the rich gambit.

However the press will be talking for days about how Romney is being divisive.

You know better than this, ken5050. Simply ludicrous to even remotely compare this to a “macaca” moment. =.=

PUT SOCIALISM ON TRIAL! Talk about the miserable failure it has been around the world, and especially Europe, than tie it to the economy here. Attack how Socialism destroys the Middle Class. The Socialists want to make this a choice election than fine! It's time to go right at Socialism's thought.

It's certainly what the media is trying. The whole "macaca" thing was a made-up outrage pushed by the Washington Post to discredit Allen.

Allen's big mistake was apologizing. He should have instead attacked the Post for making stuff up -- the second he apologized, he was toast.

“If Romney starts waffling or backing down or hemming and hawing, then yes, this could be. But if Romney holds firm and further reinforces his comments, then no, this will only strengthen him.”

Exactly, as has been said this is a golden opportunity for him. He needs to take the ball and run with it.

No, this is a small-ball political issue. I think a lot of people will like the comment.

Elections are about fundamentals. The economy still sucks, and Obama now has foreign policy challenges.

Romney can still win.

"Macaca" is name-calling. The same kind of name-calling the Left does, but only the Left is allowed to do it.

47% is a number. Most of the Left don't even know what a number is.

he needs to own his comments, not back away from them.

This is EXACTLY right, and THE strategy. You don't play on the MSM's field according to their narrative, rules and "values." You stand by your [correct] statements and rub them in their face. Doing otherwise only strengthens the state-run Dem media, and makes you look weak - like a flip-flopper.

I agree. One thing he cannot afford at this stage is to show any weakness. He has to double down and keep attacking.
