I was an engineer in my first life, and went to culinary school later in life. While some cooks would have to stand on their tippy-toes to reach 80, some of us came out of other fields. Best cook I ever knew had been a lawyer until his heart attack.
NONE of his kitchen guys spent more than one night in county. ;)
