Ann Wagner won the Republican nomination for the congressional seat that Akin is vacating. Before yesterday there was some speculation that if Akin resigned from the Senate race and Ann was appointed to replace him, then Akin could fill the vacancy she created and run for his old seat again. He would be no worse off then he was before. But obviously that didn't work.

Ann Wilson is to all appearances a solid conservative.
