Presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney has pulled ahead to a rather stunning 5-point lead over President Barack Obama in the swing state of Colorado, according to a new Quinnipiac/CBS/New York Times poll.
The poll comes as Obama heads to Colorado on Wednesday to hold two campaign events. It suggests he has some work to do to convince voters that he should be re-elected.
And the most glaring evidence of that is this damning number: 51 percent of Colorado voters think his economic policies will never improve the economy.
That means there's little hope that Obama will ever turn around the sluggish economy. It's especially concerning in a state where the unemployment rate mirrors the national average at 8.2 percent.
Other poll questions don't show much of an improvement for Obama. Fifty-one percent of voters think that Romney will be better for the economy, compared with 41 that prefer Obama. By a 20-point margin, voters think Romney would more help their personal financial situation.
And 48 percent believe Romney's business experience is a good thing on his resume for the presidency, compared with 42 percent that think it's a bad thing.
The one silver lining: By a 9-point margin, Colorado voters think their state's economy is getting better than worse. But the majority of voters say it is the same.

Lots in play!
while searching for the olympics this morning i saw them talking about this on pmsnbc...i thought something stinks if Romney’s got a 10pt advantage on the economy in Colorado yet overall he’s losing the state....anyone see this full poll or the breakdown by parties???
“42 percent that think it’s (business experience) a bad thing.”
Those 42% know how valuable community organizing is to understanding economics.
Obama is collapsing everywhere... Polls are way behind the curve in this election and don’t know why.
Obama cannot get over 42-43% of the popular vote, he has no chance of winning this election. The very idea this thing is going to be close is laughable.
The electorate wrote this guy off a long time ago, it doesn’t matter what Obama says or does, no one is listening. Only the supporters he already have hear any of his and his surrogates tin eared nonsense.
He’s burned 100 BILLION and his polling has fallen, and will continue to do so.
Fight like its a 50-50 race, but don’t buy into the nonsense folks, the wheels were off the Obama train before the election cycle even began, and as poorly as his campaign is being run, I honestly believe the guy won’t see 40% in November.
Wife and I are sitting in a Starbucks near Golden. There's an Obama supporter who cornered a couple of innocent looking, presumed to be independents; basically ranting about how he's doing so much better in construction than in 2008. We had to leave. It was a form of disturbing the peace; yet this was common in 2008.
Colorado fell for the Green concept big time in 2008. We're a health conscious state. “Earth in the Balance” movie was getting respect. A little dose of reality since then. Solyndra and other failures. A large solar plant can't be built near Alamosa because of power line visibility issues. Plus the state is leading the way in cheap natural gas production.
The Democratic Party is still big here on the local level as they are way more moderate than the Democratic Party in say Oregon.
But this is a moderate to right state that suffered a form of insanity in 2008 along with a few other states.
I now have an “OMG - Obama Must Go” sticker on my car and I park it prominently in Golden where hundreds must walk/drive by it.
your first mistake was going into Starbucks...
Ah,waking up every morning and seeing the Coors breweryI can almost hear the water rushing over the rocks in Clear
creek!
You’ve got Peyton Manning, so you don’t have any problems.
A Petreaus VP would swing Virginia in Romney’s direction. Hampton Roads is the big swing region. Bush carried it twice handily, but Obama carried it in 2008. The swing contingent in Hampton Roads is the military. There are a lot of blacks, which will vote D and the vast majority of LOCAL whites are very conservative and will vote R. The rest of the vote are the transients, military and spouse.
Bob McDonnell has pretty much ruined the republican party in Hampton Roads, but with a military-based economy, Hampton Roads could warm to Petreaus. Ironically, Romney will be here Saturday morning.
If you have Peyton, you sure as hell don't need Barack!
OFA plopped a headquarters in downtown Loveland 3 weeks ago.
It won’t help them much other than give them a location to spend $$$ trying to buy votes.
Loveland kicked the medical MJ out of town last year.
I have noticed that even in the People’s Republic of Boulder there are much fewer Zero bumper stickers. One of my neighbors has one, but she is a retired social worker and does not live in reality.
This is creepy. You've been to my condo? or did I say this in another post?
As for Coors, as long as the wind does not blow from the east. There are some funky odors.
How can you tell your neighbor is really stupid? He put it on the paint.
a word of caution: cic.
I’ve had my car keyed twice for my Walker sign and another one time for having a state senate conservative bumper on my car in northern WI.
I love yours, but here’s a few suggestions:
1. Back your car into a parking space when you are in a leftie infested area like a grocery store, preferably against some bushes(a must in the uber lib dog park here).
2. Don’t ever leave it unattended in a Starbucks or health food parking lot. lol
I live part-time in Co. and am amazed at the number of LA transplants in my resort town. Some of them came to ski and never left..generally lazy, shiftless people who try to fanagle handouts from the government for things like knee replacements(from skiing and hiking too much.
They’re rabid libs with gray ponytails, yellow teeth and professorial beards. But there is also now a solid group of conservatives here which is encouraging in the heart of the granola munching, tree hugging hornet’s nest.
We went toward the sound of the guns,,just like in WI.
I hope it was temporary insanity. I live in CS which is uber conservative so it’s difficult to get a grasp on how the rest of the state is trending.
Contrast your story at Starbucks with mine at Home Depot. Older gentleman was checking out (in self service) and used a credit card. Cashier said told him she needed to see his ID.
He asked what the hell for this government doesn’t even want
to see your ID for voting. I had to chime in and just said,
only if you’re an illegal criminal invader would you not haveto show ID for anything. He laughed as did the clerk.
OTOH, the report is he can't throw the deep out, or deep anywhere, and the season is just around the corner.
Well the scoop in Cleveland is that he's Jimmy Haslam's choice to be the next GM of the Browns. So if his playing days are short, fine with me.
I guess that's good news for the election but it still means that 49% of
Coloradans are dumber than the granite our mountains are made of.
I'd like to believe that, but I'll be happy with a 55-45 Romney "landslide". :-)
I've heard a lot about NC "being in play". Fat chance. Only way BO stands a chance in NC is if he takes the rest of the nation in a landslide like '08.
I also don't think it's because people are excited about Romney. I think it's because people are excited about "Not Obama". Or, if they tended towards BO in '08, they'll just stay home this year.
