Just a word on this subject. Snopes claims it has investigated Root's charges and has found them to be false.
And, yes, I am as sceptical as anyone of Snope's work, especially when it comes to Obama, but I felt everyone should know it's out there.

In 1964, Barack Obama, Sr. was living at 170 Magazine Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts NOT Connecticut!
His mother married Soetoro in March of 1965, when Barry was only three years old!
