I think it's possible the FPS games are, in terms of psychological impact, a very different animal than anything most of the 80's metalhead generation was exposed to during their formative years. Wasn't the early police and military use of silhouette targets specifically intended to desensitize trainees to the idea of plugging a human being? I'm just wondering about possible unintended consequences of preteens and teenagers having essentially unrestricted access to this stuff (you have to admit they mostly do in our society). As for the metal...I don't remember any of it actually being satanic back in the 80s, except Maybe King Diamond and one or two other fringe acts I can't dredge up, but I don't recall anything like the "death metal" that's been around the last decade or so. Maybe I missed it though.
