This was supposed to be the year the U.S. Senate finally ratified the age-old Law of the Sea Treaty. That was apparently enough motivation for conservatives to rally the grassroots and sink the treaty once again. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) announced that he had secured commitments from 34 senators to oppose LOST, ensuring it would not be ratified by the Senate this year. Because it requires 67 votes for the Senate to approve treaties, only 34 votes are needed block them. The 34 senators include: 1.Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) 2.Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) 3.Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) 4.Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) 5.Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) 6.Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) 7.Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) 8.Sen. Jim Demint (R-SC) 9.Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) 10.Sen. John Boozman (R-AR) 11.Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) 12.Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID) 13.Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) 14.Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) 15.Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) 16.Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) 17.Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) 18.Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) 19.Sen. John Thune (R-SD) 20.Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) 21.Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) 22.Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN) 23.Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND) 24.Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) 25.Sen. Mark Rubio (R-FL) 26.Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) 27.Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) 28.Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) 29.Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) 30.Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 31.Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) 32.Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) 33.Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) 34.Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)
The treaty offered little upside for the United States in the view of many conservatives. Yet it would have instituted a new, international legal regime and further eroded American sovereignty. DeMint spearheaded a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to outline the opposition. It was signed by 31 of the 34 senators. Isakson announced his opposition independently and Portman and Ayotte wrote a separate letter. Heres the full text of the DeMint letter: We understand that Chairman Kerry has renewed his efforts to pursue Senate ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. We are writing to let you know that we believe this Convention reflects political, economic, and ideological assumptions which are inconsistent with American values and sovereignty. By its current terms, the Law of the Sea Convention encompasses economic and technology interests in the deep sea, redistribution of wealth from developed to undeveloped nations, freedom of navigation in the deep sea and exclusive economic zones which may impact maritime security, and environmental regulation over virtually all sources of pollution. To effect the treatys broad regime of governance, we are particularly concerned that United States sovereignty could be subjugated in many areas to a supranational government that is chartered by the United Nations under the 1982 Convention. Further, we are troubled that compulsory dispute resolution could pertain to public and private activities including law enforcement, maritime security, business operations, and nonmilitary activities performed aboard military vessels. If this treaty comes to the floor, we will oppose its ratification.
Thank you, tea party. Too bad you are irrelevant. /sarc
Now we’re talkin’!
Where TH is Kay Bailey?
(That is a good slogan!)
Where TH is Kay Bailey?
***************
The pro-abortion, pro- pornography, senator from American Airlines is either waiting to hear from AA how to vote, or is pouting because Texans didnt want a more liberal governor. One thing is sure, she isnt trying to figure out whats best for Texans.
Yep, Coats paid off on this one!
I guess not. :-(
She needs to get her rear in gear, though. She’s still on the taxpayers’ dime.
“Hip Hip Hooray!!! Can we identify the treasonous senators who wanted to ratify this POS treaty?”
We know their names already. The internationalists who continually kiss the ring of the UN and screw Americans: Lugar is at the top of the list. McCain and his handmaiden Graham. Snowe, Collins and Brown from here in New England. Kirk from IL. And so on.
Thank you Senator Roberts and Senator Moran of the Great State of Kansas. We appreciate your hard work in DC.
Don’t worry. Ted Cruz is coming to rescue us from Kay Bailey.

There is a SUPREME difference between “commitment” and “voted,” so hold off any celebration until after all the votes are counted.
BTW, not only do politicians change their minds, but Supreme Court Judges do too.
Yeppir & Praise God!
You can also add Lamar Alexander to the list (35*).
* He’s voting “no” if it’s brought up this year but you take what you can get. Inhofe hinted today that several more “no” votes will occur if the treaty is taken for a floor vote.
I wonder if this monster will even get 60 votes for cloture.
Kerry knows that this is a “make or break” for LOST for the foreseeable future. If the GOP gains control the Senate, and has a new batch of GOP conservatives (Fischer, Cruz, Mourdock, etc.,) then this treaty might not get out of committee in 2013 (or for many, many years).
If the whip count isn’t there, I can guess that those who support this treaty might either switch their vote (after making a lame excuse) or simply not show up. If you hear the quorum call with several Democrats not on the list, then you know it’s truly DOA.
Will Kerry, like a bulldog, try to ram a floor vote? At this rate he might not get cloture and risks getting egg on his face....his followers might not be so fanatical when voters hear the scope of this bad treaty.
Until the vote, get your senators on-the-record on LOST. Even the ones who the press believes are supporters.
GOP
Enzi (WY)
Graham (SC)
Snowe (ME)
Collins (ME)
Corker (TN)
McCain (AZ)
Murkowski (AK)
Cochran (MS)
Brown (MA)
Kirk (IL)
Hutchinson (TX)
Lugar co-sponsored the bill...forget him.....good riddance.
DNC
All Democratic supporters are believed to be supporting the treaty.
Even if he loses, Kerry will not quit. He and his globalist buddies will go back to the drawing board to make a few cosmetic changes and try to resell LOST as something new and improved (back home we call that “polishing a turd”).
StabAcow needs to be put out to pasture
Thank God I see alot of Southern States on that.
I knew Sessions and Shelby were gonna vote against LOST.
I expect LOST and the Convention on Small Arms to be voted on in the lame duck session, just like those bastards did with the Farm bill, START, and Gays in the Military after the 2010 @ss-kicking. We need more than 34, and they have to be comitted to stopping lame duck stunts!!
But if Hatch gets reelected, he’ll go back to his old globalist ways.
Thank you Senator Rubio (R-FL).
Oh, I noticed.
I hope he retires rather than run again. If not, I hope he’s primaried.
Let’s see... that would be that turn coat, traitorous, abortion loving, gay marriage supporting, planned parenthood financing, UN loving anti American Senator from Mississippi... thad cochran. He vowed to reid and kerry... under blood oath... to sign the treaty.
LLS
“Wickers name is on the list, guess whos not?”
I called Senator Cochran’s office last week and told them I would certainly expect him to vote against it but he should come out and openly oppose it. Now he’ll just say “I was going to vote against it” We really need to get rid of “Thad”.
