How in the hell did the South put a Klansman in the Senate?

Wasn’t West Virginia created by President Lincoln and the North? How is it then a Southern state?

oh wait ... weren't some of those souls mentioned born up north? Thinking hillary but not positive. Where did all of the aforementioned come from via their ancestors? That perhaps will hold clues or perhaps not. Difficult to tell these days and most everyone can become corrupt, right?

I’ll never understand why all those dirt poor Southern enlisted men who didn’t own slaves fought like hell for the South. And that includes my g-g-grandfather who was wounded twice, went home to heal, then went back and fought some more. He never owned a slave.
