It is true that some slaves were kept in the status of slave due to strict laws against manumission, though they were treated as free in the household and had freedom of movement not accorded to other slaves.

This is an exception and a minority of cases, but it did indeed happen.

And I think he meant to say they were “treated” as part of the family.

Thank You, That is exactly what I menat and it wasn’t such an exception.

Many slaves were called Aunt and Uncle and were well loved by the family that had them.Many of them lived better as slaves than many poor white families.Many of them stayed with those families after freedom.

I agree anyone who would wear those shoes is an idiot, but I also think people who pierce their bodies their tongues, their private parts are also idiots, they pay money to have these things done to them, and IMO it’s worse than a pair of stupid shoes.
