Well Plumms the original Time article together with the cover was posted here a long time ago. So I guess if you had been paying attention to the issue at the time, you too would have a copy.
Fred has given us a copy of a reprint; Trowbridge has a copy of the original article on her site; it is in sufficient general circulation that you shouldn't have much trouble finding it or the wire distribution of the story.
The original interview was done while he was at Harvard purportedly going to law school.
And for the reason it is a hot topic here, it is an obvious scrub target. Fred doesn't like posting original record here because the Opposing Forces read the material and go out and scrub the record.
The version he told the interviewer is that the prevailing view of when he went to Indonesia was not well understood--that in fact he had gone there when he was two. That fits with a birth in the 60-61 period; the fact record of a brief presence in Hawaii in the first couple of months of 63; and his complete absence from the record anywhere thereafter (with one exception we think not relevant here).
Together with the record that at that point (Spring quarter, 1963), Stanley starts school at the U of Hawaii and goes there until she goes to Indonesia in 1966--Barry completely absent from the record anywhere in the interim.
Could you cite, please? What issue? What did the cover look like? It appears this is something pulled from straight from your imagination.
Fred has given us a copy of a reprint;
If that is indeed the article you are referring to, it is an Associated Press article. It is not from Time magazine. Hence, there is no Time magazine cover. This cover you are seeing in your mind's eye is something that was invented by your imagination and that you have now confused with reality. You may want to check your other premises to see if you are confusing other things from your imagination with things from reality.
The version he told the interviewer
There isn't a direct quote, so it's hard to say what exactly he said and what the reporter guessed/made up from his notes.
The version he told the interviewer is that the prevailing view of when he went to Indonesia was not well understood
This is not a clear sentence. What are you trying to say here?
Spring quarter, 1963), Stanley starts school at the U of Hawaii and goes there until she goes to Indonesia in 1966--Barry completely absent from the record anywhere in the interim.
There is a picture of Barry in a kindergarten class in Hawaii at some point during those years. IIRC, there is also a statement from a Hawaii education department that his public school records were "lost." The latter isn't a record per se but a record of a record. The "lost" record probably contained some kind of birth information.
