You are correct. Government has the power to protect the health and welfare of its citizens. We expect that because we, the people, cannot possibly know EVERYTHING.

Interesting book out related to this subject: it’s called The Poisoner’s Handbook. This story details the developement of forensic medacine in New York City during Prohibition, and how that department dealth with the huge number of poisonings which occurred.

Government has the power to protect the health and welfare of its citizens.

Which "government"? Show us where the States transferred that power to the national government, and you'll have a defense of the federal drug war, and the EPA.

I'll make it easy. If they did that, it will be listed among the enumerated powers. Just tell us which one you think it is.

Government only has the power that you surrender to them.
Did I miss the part where we re-invented the wheel? There have been drunkards, drug addicts and sloths since the beginning of time. So now it's brand new?
I applaud your taking care of your own but why do you want to take away my liberty?
Why do I have to tolerate constant checkpoints, searches and inappropriate questions to protect your junkie kin?
Sorry to be this direct but a whole culture hangs in the balance.
