Wars were WON UNCONDITIONALLY rather than abandoned, drawn out or negotiated. Until the young military aged WWII generation returned and started running the wars and the government for the next 40 years.
They were a disaster as leaders.

The first post-WWII non-victory war was Korea. It started during Truman’s administration, and that administration was a generation older than the WWII vets.
