The Murdoch’s are lefties, but business-savvy ones. They saw that most media outlets in the U.S., U.K. and Australia were far left leaning, and saw a business opportunity, a gigantic market not being served at all.
The Murdoch’s have no commitment to conservatism, only to making a buck.
