I believe some Conservatives media leaders were shown documentary support for the proposition that he was in fact born in the United States but under circumstances that would almost irrevocably prejudice (or maybe have prejudiced in an after election display) his election changes; and decided (wrongly in my opinion) that the majority had spoken and that preservation of the Constitutional democracy required them to support the result.
