Sheriff Joe: “I’m Not a Social Worker…I’m a Cop” (CBS Evening News)

With the Obama Department of Justice reportedly preparing to sue Sheriff Joe Arpaio to enforce "oversight" - essentially taking over his department - the CBS Evening News took a look at the Sheriff and the accusations against him.

As usual, Joe did not disappoint.

Asked if he enjoyed being "disliked", Arpaio said:

"Well I sure don't want to be known as a nice guy. I'm not a social worker, I'm a cop!"

Arpaio told CBS News that the Administration is only after him because they don't like him enforcing immigration laws. He also said he would "never resign", and is instead running hard for re-election.

CBS tried their best to smear Arpaio with damaging anecdotes, but it falls flat, as he clearly charmed the reporter, and you just know that most Americans who watched the segment like Joe more than ever.

Perhaps this is why the Administration gets so exasperated by the Sheriff - because no matter how they try and demonize him, Americans continue to support him. Because Arpaio represents the kind of lawman the nation used to have: those who did their job no matter what the cost, and refused to kowtow to politicians.

Unfortunately what we usually see are absolute disgraces like the LAPD’s Charlie Beck - who is nothing but a lapdog for L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and who recently said he would California's car impound law because it is "unfair" to illegal aliens.

Sheriff Joe does not kowtow to anyone, from his local councilman to the President of the United States. And we salute him for it.

Mike, your knowledge of modern constitutional law seems quite shaky. The Obama courts have ruled, and this is backed up by every Republican elected official I have spoken to, and who has deigned to speak to me, that a rumor of birth in Hawaii constitutes Natural Born Citizenship and meets every Constitutional requirement.

PS: Rubio for President. Had it not been for vicious snti-hispanic discrimination, Rubio could have been born in Hawaii, and so is also eligible as a Natural Born Citizen, 2d Class, since we freed Cuba from Spain at about the same time we kicked out the Hawaiian Monarchy and made the ungrateful Kanakas into territorial citizens. Ditto, of course, children of illegal Mexicans. This thing about citizen parents? Nonsense, my good man!

Just because Rubio ain't a Natural Born Citizen doesn't mean he's a not a good guy!

I think he took some legal counsel on the matter and accepted that he is not constitutionally eligible for the top spots. Hope he does well in the Senate.
