However you go about storing, soon as you get your rice & beans in the house, freeze them for a couple of weeks in order to kill off the weavils that always come packaged with such. (Maybe pick out a few heary bean specimens first for seed, if you garden.) If you don’t do the freeze-kill first, your storage efforts will have been for naught, as a friend of mine learned the hard way.
