Hello, I'm looking for some technical help and FR never steers me wrong!
I have an older Hewlett Packard xw8400 workstation that came with one CPU and it is now running 64 bit Windows 7 with the 2010 BIOS update. I've now inherited another 8400 that isn't working and I've transplanted the RAM, a hard drive, and the CPU to my original machine.
The motherboard has two CPU slots and the new CPU fan runs fine in the slot.
But I'm not getting the new CPU to run. I also can't find in the BIOS how to enable multiprocessor support.
Anyone have any advice?
Thank you!
THANK YOU!
Reimaging did the trick! I had it reimaging and all overnight and this morning there are eight cores all up and running!
Thank you so very much!
Megan
Thank you for the advice but it is up and running now! Much appreciated!
You’re welcome. Now you just need to decide what to do with all that processor horsepower :)
Google Earth is looking AwEsOmE!!!! :)
8 Cores, or 8 threads?
Two four core Xeon processors.
Oh, NICE!
It is! I got the first machine for free when a friend gave it to me and then the 2nd machine he gave to me because it didn’t work anymore so I took the RAM, the CPU, the video card, and the BluRay RW out of it and installed it all to my computer. I’m really happy it all works!
yeah, no doubt! I love it when a plan comes together :)
