I don't begrudge her the folks who are supposed to keep her hair looking good and keep her dressed well, though they have often failed spectacularly in Mrs. Obama's case. One of the "duties" of the First Lady is to show up and look nice on certain occasions.

Of course, the FLOTUS is supposed to look good and all that , she needs a staff and that's fine. It's the lavish vacations, the separate flights from her husband, going to the same place. The separate security, staff, jet etc, that's what should have people ticked off. Then with the lavish lifestyle, preaching to the rest of us about how fat & lazy we all are.

I suspect that even aside from the excesses you mention, which most everyone (except the media)has noticed, her White House expenses and staff are far in excess of what other recent First Ladies have had and spent, even Mrs. Clinton. That's why I'd like to see a comparison made of those numbers.

For that matter, it would be interesting to see how spending on dinners and entertainment in the White House stacks up against other administrations, both formal, official functions and private ones. I don't doubt that the spending is pretty free there, too.

I'm old enough to remember the scandal the press tried to make out of Nancy Reagan's new White House china, yet nothing Mrs. Obama does or spends seems to cause anyone to turn a hair. Interesting.
