When someone pins you to the ground and starts beating you in the head and face, I'll remind you that you should "fight without weapons". And I'll see how long you last before you start to lose consciousness.

You can not count on someone else fighting fair. Plus, I have known too many people who can easily kill without weapons. No thanks. Guns make a civil society. If trayvon knew he might be shot maybe he would not have engaged in the fight. Hopefully, enough evidence comes out to calm the mobs and exonerate Zimmerman. I doubt he will do well in jail after all this instigation by the racial self-righteous brothers.

This “two guys should just duke it out with their fists” stuff is pure nonsense. People get maimed for life from fistfights all the time. Personally, I’m not interested, will avoid a fistfight at every opportunity, and if assaulted will endeavor to end the assault by any means appropriate and available.
Zimmerman was looking to help stop the high level of crime in his neighborhood.
I am not so sure that Z was looking for a fight. If he had lost track of the kid, and was on the way back to his car, probably not.
The police probably have looked at the marks of people walking around and footprints in the dew, but have not yet made the results public. A little patience is required.
