The “Protectorate of Kenya” refers to the coastal strip, including Mombasa, which was under the sovereignty of the Sultan of Zanzibar but also under British protection until 1963, when the “colony” and the “protectorate” were merged as independent Kenya.

Correct. There was some question as to whether “Protectorate of Kenya”, or more specifically “British Protectorate of Kenya” would have appeared on official documents at that time (post-1920 and pre-1963). There don’t seem to be any maps that show that coastal strip as a separate entity. This document eliminates that particular objection to the authenticity of the alleged Kenyan BC.
