You don’t have to be crazy, but it seems to help.
From what I’ve seen, crazy people are over-represented in the prepper group. Disaster preparation is a good insurance policy. Comes in handy on a rainy day. It is possible to over-insure, though. Keep it in perspective.

Well, since the whole prepper thing doesn’t really lend itself to a sexual angle, the producers and editors of the show have to have some quirk to keep peoples attention. They’ve decided to make the preppers look as strange or stupid as they possibly can so the viewers can get a chuckle out of it.
It’s no different than all the manufactured conflict on the scripted reality shows.

A careful man prepares for the worst and is grateful for everyday he is given that is not the worse. When I was a kid I realized everyday without a nuclear war was a good day. This is the day that the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad with it.

I guess my grandma and grandpa were crazy. She always had a few month's food in the pantry on the farm, they had a few critters, chickens, enough fuel, seed, and fertilizer for the season's planting, a boat, a rifle, 'enough' ammo put up, and plenty of wood for the stove, even though she had that 'darned electric thing'.
The list goes on. Funny how only in the past few decades people have come to count on someone else for their basic provender, or perhaps my rural upbringing blinds me to a more ingrained pattern of behaviour.
My grandparents raised four children right through the depression and WWII, survived a few hurricanes and a couple of tornadoes, and they never went hungry--in fact, they often supplied others.
Crazy? Like a fox.
With just the economic storm clouds on the horizon, not to mention a host of other factors, you'd have to either be crazy or criminally negligent not to provide a plan B for your family in case all the modern conveniences do not hold up to what the future has to bring, whether it be a natural disaster or a man made mess.

AMEN.
Unfortunately, the 9 out of 10 - or 99 out of 100 - who scoff at and denigrate the ‘preppers’ will be the first to run to them for help - or worse.
Jesus gave us the parable of the bridesmaids and the oil lamps as a lesson to follow.
(BTW, I grew up on my grandparents farm in the 1930-40’s. There wasn’t much gas - it was rationed - nor much money, but we were never cold nor hungry, providing our own foods and wood for heat.)

Living on the Gulf Coast, we always had somethings put back for storms. It’s the smart thing to do.
Or, as my Granny used to say...”Better to have and not need, then need, and not have.”
In a way glad she’s gone on to Glory, ‘cause what’s happening now would scare the hell out of her.

Many folks see hundreds of parked school buses as their preparation for survival. Others will rely on looting and mayhem. Me? I’ll stick with the crazies and keep my friends and family close.

My personal goal, and that of the people who let themselves be filmed, is to educate. Goal achieved. There are certainly those in the viewing audience who are taking notes on where to go and exactly who to see when TSHTF. Bad OpSec.

I’m just back from looking around on some mamsy pamsy liberal forums where they “just can’t wrap my mind around” any preps and will “just wing it” if there’s an event. But I’ll just tribe up with my apartment neighbors who are equally unprepared! But I’ll just go down to the food bank!! But I’ll just put on my little house on the prairie dress and hop on over to the crazy LDS folks!!! But nothing will ever happen here!!!!
That reminds me to add more toilet paper to the list.

A couple of generations ago, good preparation was the difference between life and death.
Today it's still the same, only with modern conveniences the line is obscured.
There are events that make it quite clear, though. South Florida after hurricane Wilma, for example. We prepared and were quite comfortable after 13 days with no power nor access to supplies.
We saw television reports later of people South of us lining up for water and supplies crying "Where is the government?" Despite the warnings, many people didn't bother to prepare even for the government recommended 3 days with no aid. The interviewer was practically laughing at them for being so pathetic. They had no reason for not preparing.
Anyway, we figure these were the types who'd be scrounging around and looting after a major event. They won't last long, though...

I almost popped that one on Netflix the other day but watched “Serenity” instead. This weekend it’s BTILC.
Thanks for reminding me.

And more ammo, if you need it. We will have to be defending our carefully accrued supplies from these parasites.
