There is no iconic American symbol that the left hates more than the cowboy. Because a cowboy embodies everything which the left hates-- decency, independence, self-reliance, values, a strong sense of virtue and justice and a willingness to stand up for all of the foregoing.

It is not a coincidence that the most cowboy state in America is also the most conservative-- Wyoming, the place where I was born.

You're right. That's why Presidents Reagan and G.W. Bush were derisively called cowboys by the left.

Some years ago I saw a photo of an Abrams tank turret during Gulf I. Stenciled on it in neat black letters were the words “Have gun, will travel, wire Rumsfeld, Washington DC.
