Anyone remember those TV Westerns that dominated the screens in both the USA and UK during the 50s and 60s? They were evicted wholesale after Fred Silverman of CBS instigated his rural purge in 1970.
Why did CBS and the other networks close them down? Who knows, because ratings were certainly not low. The Western on page or screen always had an appeal both inside and outside the USA.

Johnny Yuma was a rebel, he rode through the west...
Johnny Yuma was a rebel, he rode with the best.
He was panther quick and leather tough but figured that he’d been push enough, the rebel.
Johnny Yuma...............
Yes she was. But Miss Barbara Stanwick had a great little.....riding crop.
I was expecting the townspeople of Rock Ridge. RANDOLPH SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTT!!!!
Do Zorro and the Cisco Kid count? Both have serviceable themes. I’m raising my kids on this stuff (no TV, PC only).
Oh, don’t forget Bat Masterson.
——That men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number———
I think this was a clumsy way of saying, “the common good,” or “the General Welfare,” as it’s called in the Constitution.
Without this concept, we couldn’t justify sending men off to war. Yes, the good of society is more important than the good of the individual, because society is composed of individuals. Socialists stretch the concept beyond reason. Government exists to protect its constituent parts, the individual and the family, not to tyranize them.
Great pledge, BTW. Society was much healthier then.

I think I’ve got it right now listen to the interview of Clint Walker by Mark Levin.

Free western movies:

BTW: Roy Rogers movies are shown on RFD TV. Trigger and Bullet are owned and shown around the country by the station.
Sky King, Hopalong Cassidy, and Wagon Train....just a couple more.
My brother and I had Mattell Fanner 50’s with plastic bullets that really shot and went bang with Greenie Stickum Caps. Ahhh...those were the days.
Time for a commercial...

Also liked "Have Gun, Will Travel." My dad owned a ranch near Apache Junction, Arizona "back in the day" and one day we got a call from "Have Gun, Will Travel" show wanting to rent one of my dad's barns for a fight scene with Paladin (Richard Boone). I got to watch the filming, and when they were finished, Richard Boone gave me one of his autographed "Have Gun, Will Travel" cards.
"'Have gun, will travel' is the call of a man. A knight without armor in a savage land."
I’m amazed the themesong of “Lawman” has not been mentioned already.

“The Rifleman’’ theme bore a passing similarity to “El Paso’’ IMHO.
