If so, then I have to ask. Have you ponied up and sent $$$ to help the cause? I’m talking an amount that puts a dent in the pocketbook.

If Santorum ends up being the GOP nominee, I think he starts in a pretty good position. Usually a Presidential election boils down to one of three big issues: Economy, Moral or Defense. Obama is in trouble on all three of those, particularly the first. And now, because of his arrogance, he’s brought the Morals issue to the fore. Heaven knows he’s clueless on Defense.

If, and that’s a BIG if, the GOP nominee can stay on the offensive, taking the election to Obama, we’ll be OK. Pound, pound, pound him on the economy AND have a clear plan to get us out of this mess. Offering “hope and change” platitudes won’t cut it. Be specific and on the attack.

I didn’t contend Newt isn’t conservative and personally I have nothing against him. I’m countering the assertions about Santorum.

All of the candidates have a huge hill to climb to even have a shot at defeating Obama, and Gingrich, albeit with some great ideas, has the highest negatives. So tell us how he might overcome them.

It’s the GOP establishment, Paulbots, Romney, and Obama supporters dissing Newt. I wonder why?

That 19% was a Trump talking point, too.

“Santorum has plenty of record in the Senate, anyone interested can look it up”

Thats the problem. Rick is socially conservative but other than that he’s a big govt republican and has the record to prove it.

This is getting a little old now. Every time one of the Republicans starts getting a little traction some one on here or at other sites starts posting the equivalent of : “He/She’s gonna get killed in the general by Obama. Obama is going to portray him as an out-of-touch Wall Street operative (Romney), a crazy, unlikeable old-news politician who hates women (Gingrich), an whiny, weak loser who hates women (Santorum), a Bush retread (Perry), an incompetent race traitor who hates women (Cain), etc, etc.

Do you see a pattern here? No matter WHO we nominate, the billion dollar (though that’s even debatable) http://theweek.com/article/index/223287/obamas-billion-dollar-campaign-did-the-fundraising-hype-backfire Obama machine will attempt to pummel whoever the nominee is.

Look let’s have the debate and I think actually this long primary process is actually good as all parts of the Republican party have their say, all weaknesses are brought up now, we get to see what the Dems line of attack would be on each Republican and it toughens up the eventual nominee as well as keeping Republicans’s issues high profile.

Support your candidate but let’s drop the “But Obama will tear this particular candidate to pieces” because that’s true no matter who our nominee is. No Republican nominee will be attacked any less than any other. And I think any of the candidates will be able to respond to it well as long as we see what’s going on and stick together no matter who the nominee is.

But my wife (a Newt supporter) always calls Santorum a “whiner.” Funny that was in the descrip...

I see this from Newt fans al lot but I have never seen him whine. However, I sure have seen Newt whine a lot. He whined about Florida not doing the delegates even though he knew about it. He whined about the debates. I just never saw Santorum whine.

Well, I’d vote for anybody over Obama but I am VERY concerned that Santorum means Obama re-election

And that’s not worth an aggressive, pro-active warning?

After 3.5 yrs of Obummer we want to nominate our own unaccomplished nothing...? WHY?

I’ll take a Former House Speaker, superb debater, and all-round pitbull Newt any day... sans negative attack ads, he probably would have had the nomination wrapped up by now

“That 19% was a Trump talking point, too.”

Well, Trump was right on that- not possible somehow?

And when Ricky got clobbered by 19 pts in 2006, it set the all time record for margin of defeat for a senatorial incumbent- but maybe Obama won’t bring that up our of respect, right?

He was THE Leader who shepherded Welfare Reform through the Senate. The ONLY entitlement reform that has ever taken place. I for one would call that a conservative achievement.

I hate that creep. In fact, I am glad that only Newt and Romney were in consideration for his dumb endorsement. I remember all the Newt supporters were so excited that Trump was going to endorse him. lol. It was rather a disgusting sight. Of course, once he endorsed Romney, he became a villain. Such silliness. And I am even more thrilled that Trump hates Santorum. That to me is a great thing.

I feel Newt is far tougher and would hold up better

Plus he’s got a record of accomplishment and is one of the world’s best debaters

He did not lose by 19 points and being the liar you are I suppose you are not going to prove your vicious lies. I expect you to explain yourself immediately!!!!

I think he is a unity candidate that possibly we could all settle on. I don’t think he would try to increase the size and scope of government, and I think a strong tea party congress could easily make common ground with him to start cleaning up the mess - beginning with the health care law.

Exactly, Santorum’s platform is fine but the VESSEL is lacking

It’s not bashing to note he’s got the personality of a parking meter

I consider myself a standup guy for taking heat while trying to warn you guys you’re betting it all on a certain loser- think what you want to think.

And “betting it all” means the fate of the United States of America this time

You are doing the absolute right thing in making sure we put up our strongest candidate because beating Obama is the top priority.

In that vein wouldn’t most agree here that even though Obama is a disaster in so many ways that more than likely his two biggest Achilles heals will be 1.) the economy and 2.) Obamacare? The media and their hacks (Media Matters, etc.) will spin the economy as better or getting better (ie yes unemployment is 8.9% but it was 9.0% last month!!, etc.) no matter what and hopefully people will see through that, but we can’t control perception after a certain point.

But try as they may Obamacare is a loser for them no matter how they spin it. Obama himself only mentioned his “signature achievement” what three times in the State of the Union speech? All Dems up for re-election are running from it as fast as they can yet I believe for sure with Romney and probably with Newt http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/289618/gingrich-and-individual-mandate-jonathan-h-adler
http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/newt-gingrich-in-2009-hey-that-individual-mandate-is-a-great-idea/
we hand one of the mose effective issues we’ll have right back to the Dems and media.
