Obamacare vs. the Catholics [“We Cannot—We Will Not Comply With This Unjust Law”]

Obamacare vs. the Catholics The administration’s breach of faith.

JONATHAN V. LAST On the last weekend of January, priests in Catholic churches across America read extraordinary letters to their congregations. The missives informed the laity that President Obama and his administration had launched an assault on the church. In Virginia, Catholics heard from Bishop Paul Loverde, who wrote, “I am absolutely convinced that an unprecedented and very dangerous line has been crossed.”

In Phoenix, Bishop Thomas Olmsted wrote, “We cannot—we will not comply with this unjust law.” In Pittsburgh, Bishop David Zubik wrote that President Obama had told Catholics, “To Hell with your religious beliefs.” Bishop Daniel Jenky of Peoria asked his flock to join him in the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, which concludes: By the Divine Power of God / cast into Hell, Satan and all the evil spirits / who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

It was a remarkable moment, in part because despite their stern reputation, most Catholic bishops are not terribly conservative. They tend to be politically liberal and socially cautious. If they were less holy men, stauncher conservatives would call them squishes.

Real live conservative bishops are so few and far between that whenever one appears on the scene, such as Philadelphia’s Archbishop Charles Chaput, he’s seen as a vaguely threatening curiosity. You can tell when a bishop is conservative because you will hear him referred to as “hardline” or “ultra-orthodox,” so as to mark him apart from the rest of the herd.

If there was ever any doubt in anyone's mind, the events of the last week prove that the Obama Regime is is virulently anti-Catholic. His Marxist, pro-homosexual and anti-American agenda is diametrically opposed to the tenets espoused by the Roman Catholic Church, along with those of other conservative Christian denominations. We are entering a new era of persecution of Christians - not being fed to the lions, but being seriously, systematically and unjustifiably impaired in our ability to observe the beliefs of our religion.

I pray to St.Michael the Archangel for his help in the coming struggle.

Etiam non princeps sed usque ad genua, Principis Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

The fault for this lies squarely with the Catholic Bishops.

For years they have played footsie with the Democrats and pushed for government provided healthcare.

You lie with dogs, you get....

Even at this point has the USCCB demanded the complete repeal of Obamacare? If not why not?

He’s against marriage, family and for abortion. He, like other marxists is using a social agenda to sway certain religious denominations ( The Social Gospel, sandanistas, etc.)

The Catholics, among other Christian denominations are weakened already by internal issues. This is just driving a wedge to separate the sheep from the goats.

I can’t pray to the Archangel but he is ready to do God’s bidding...and that day will likely come soon. Peace!

If you've not read the Treaty of London (1604) you should take the time to do so.

That's a treaty whereby Philip (II/III) King of Spain carved up North America for settlement opportunities ~ by folks other than Spaniards or their employees.

His cousin James I/II of England got a chunk called Acadia. His cousins in France got a larger chunk. He reserved a part for Spain (and it looks like both Russia and Portugal had some previous claims recognized).

He kept Carolana and Florida (by then defined as being that part South of Carolana.

There was this piece between Acadia in the North and Carolana in the Souf' that he kind of tossed out there as a place where Europe's Protestants could go.

You can deduce that inferrentially as you go through the parts about some places being Catholic, and Protestants can go there as long as they do nothing to offend Catholics, and other places are Protestant, and Catholics can go there and trade and do business as long as they do nothing to offend Protestants.

Every ten years or so I bother reading it and am always astounded with how utterly advanced this treaty was in terms of how people of different communes should behave toward each other. It was incredibly enlightened.

Obviously history down the road got busy and changed those borders, and everything didn't work out as well as he had envisioned, but Philip II/III definitely had a good idea ~ we call it America.

Nearly 200 years later Jefferson and other American officers of state raised the issue of allowing Catholics to SETTLE in America ~ and they decided it was OK.

This was a far larger America than Philip II/III thought about, but he'd agreed with the idea I am sure. (It's his father who would not have agreed).

Knowing this place where I live was set aside for me by great men, I am very ill at ease when I see Obama violate the very first dicta governing intra communal harmony ~ that in the Protestant lands the Catholics do nothing to offend their religious sensibilities, and in the Catholic lands, Protestants do nothing to offend their religious sensibilities.

Obama's scope of history and humanity, and what it takes to live in peace is a pittance compared to that of a playboy king of the early 1600s.

The Catholics need backed in their resistance ~ whatever it takes!

If every Catholic in the country would vote against this socialist thug, it would be a landslide, no matter who the GOP ran against the Marxist.

Of course politics always trumps religion, so the koolaid drinkers on the left will vote for this turd regardless of what he does to their church. Every priest in America should be demanding parishioners vote against this Fraud !

First they came for the Catholics, but I wasn’t a Catholic so I thought, “this doesn’t affect me, I’ll keep silent.”

Didn’t a majority of Catholic voters support Obama?

Yes....however, one cannot be a real Catholic and follow the tenets AND be a Democrat or vote for Obama. These would be called cafeteria catholics......woe to them.

Before anyone can stand with you, you have to stand for something and stand up for your Church.

Pardon me for saying this, but as a non-Catholic I’ve watched your Church roll over from criticism and eaten away from within by your own ‘progressives’.

It will be interesting to see if the Church leadership has finally drawn a line in the sand and will not retreat from the criticism of the MSM which is sure to come.

Framing the issue as Freedom of Religion is a good smart start.

Yes they did. Majority of Catholics are Democrats. Political Party trumped their religion, when it came to voting. They knew he supported abortion and especially late term abortions and now they stamp their feet and say “we will not comply with this unjust law”.

I recall John Kennedy explaining that his political views and religious views were two separate things so he could as a politician make decisions that didn't support his Catholic beliefs.

That became the fall back position ever since. Those Catholics that are so upset (reasonably but inconsistently so) over Obamacare seem to forget when Jesuit priest Robert Drinin was a congressman he worked to make abortion legal and never hesitated to support any legislation in favor or it.
He too provided cover for any politician that supported abortion since they could point to him and say if a priest can support this why not you?

So now the Catholic bishops are crying about an unjust law? Fellas, your people made it possible.

If the Catholic church cannot get its own members to support it official positions why should anyone else?

You could claim that, if you accept the results of unscientific and unreliable exit polls with suspect methodology as fact.
