LOL, I would be executed if I put a gun stock in the dishwasher!! I use mineral spirits and patience to remove cosmoline. A guy I knew used to keep his C&R guns rolled up in old towels in the back of a derelict car. After a long hot summer they would be cosmoline free. But I've never known any C&R gun, no matter how clean, to NOT weep a bit of grease from the stock pores when fired.

Russian C&Rs have other fun surprises. Did you know that shellac melts at under 200 degrees Fahrenheit? And that melted shellac can catch fire? I found out while shooting my Mosin Nagant M44 at the range. The handguard flamed up real good about forty rounds into a sustained fire session. The other folks there got a good laugh...and they were happy that I took a break from shooting that M44...it sounds like a 105mm when fired indoors.
