Congrats to you and your son. Tell him not to worry about Obama. Presidents come and go. I served when Jimmy Carter was President and we replaced him with Ronald Reagan. Things have a way of working out and mistakes corrected.
Express our gratitude and prayers for your son.
Nice. Thank you for your families service.
A most amazing (and humbling) experience from his short time in the Corps (Reserve) is something an old Gunny I work with told me when he enlisted. He told me, “You are a part of the family. You will find out what that means.”
I’ve gotten little glimpses of that and my heart swells up every time.
Congratulations all around and please thank him for his service.
Even though envy is a deadly sin I must admit that I envy you.
Congrats to you and your son.
He is “da Man”!
congrats to you and Mrs Don-o.....
Moreover, his six year stint proved very constructive, in helping him to focus, when he later proved a straight A student in his four year undergraduate work in College. It was not that he did not have sound family & patriotic values before--had he not such values he would never have enlisted;--but he was not always so well focused to long term purpose.
I hope that your son finds the Corps experience as worthwhile, and returns to you safe & sound, with the satisfaction of having served to a higher purpose than many of his classmates, who never felt tbe call.
William Flax.

America’s Marines: a Life of Honor, Courage and Commitment
My son also joined the Reserves out of high school, which followed nine grades of home school. When he told me he wanted to join the Corps, I asked him, “Why not the Navy, Air Force....?”
His answer silenced me, “I want to be the best.” He also realized his own need for discipline, direction and purpose. That he has found in the Corps. I sent a good boy to Parris Island three years ago. They sent back a good man.
Most excellent news! You and Mrs. Don-o have done well to raise a new Marine. I am as proud as you both are!
Tell him this former active duty juggie wants to be the first to salute him....even though he isn’t a officer...yet!!! I salute you too dad...is that your chest sticking through my computer?
You damn right. Good thing there’s no buttons on this shirt.
