I’ve been looking for a bronze/brass collar for the ocean/salt water. To date we finesse by keeping a sharp lookout for the popos when the dog is in the water.
I don’t think any of the rest of us have quite figured out raygun’s “line of logic”, yet...assuming there is one.
If we get upset that a cop shoots a dog “running loose” on its own property, we should be doubly enraged when a -restrained- dog is gunned down.
It appears that *all* dogs are “fair game” now, whether they’re legally restrained, legally loose on their owner’s property, legally sitting in their owner’s vehicle or simply standing in their owner’s house when the cops break in.
Welcome your new BATFD overlords.
As I’ve mentioned, I lived this nightmare.
The NAS base MPs came for my UA ex in Norfolk; the ~SWAT team~ was sent along for me and my “killer Dobe”...just in case.
And, the thug -was- going to shoot him, even though he was shut away in another room.
Luckily, the jackboot decided *not* to shoot through my body to hit the dog.
[this was 30 years ago so it’s not something “new”..it’s just more overt, now]
“Overlooking the dog would be easy.”
But not very much fun, obviously.
[maybe he mistook the barking of the dog for humans arguing]
:::rolls eyes:::
Google “Curogan collar”
http://www.things4yourdog.com/herm%20sprenger%203.2mm%20curogan%20pinch%20collar
Copper/tin alloy [basically same as bronze]
Herm Sprenger also sells stainless steel which will hold up against salt water better than chrome plated or nickel plated collars.
Some of the comments posted like the one in question, are way over the top, lacking any thought whatsoever. It’s just amazing, and a bit disturbing.
Probably, but if I were on a grand jury I'd likely no-bill.
If you just happen to stumble upon the “right” [or “wrong”, as the case may be] places on FR, there’s a *lot* of “disturbing stuff” to be found.
Dog threads seem to be a peculiar magnet for neuroses.
I don’t know why.
Dogs are good things and most people like them.
I’d like to say I’ve ceased to be amazed but I don’t dare...someone will always manage to come along and shock me.
It’s a mistake to chain your dog when the Pro-Serve Crips come to call. Better to scream “KILL KILL KILL” and give the dog a fighting chance.
(Just askin')
I saw that they specifically acknowledged the potential problem on their webpage and wasn’t sure whether it was merely warning of a *possible* problem or acknowledging a known, widespread problem.
Thanks.
This happened in Stanton CA in the 1980s when a cop killed a boy while the boy was in his bedroom.
True if one doesn't adapt.
I have to watch the dog at all times when the leash is on free run. If the dog is about to hit the end, I move my arm rearward (and issue a command to stop) to absorb the shock so there is no yank.
When I wuz a ute, there was an older kid in the ‘hood who kept snakes in his basement. He later got a job at the Zoo, doing same.
Just stressing an excellent point!!!!!!
I’ve had mine for several years so I can’t speak to whatever they’re selling, now.
Mine has never left any dye on my hands but EPA laws regarding chemicals have changed severely in the last couple of years.
We can’t even buy the paint we used to have such great results with on our motorcycles.
They’re trying to phase out real paint in favor of water based acrylic paint like California did.
For all I know, they’re sticking their big noses into the tannery industry, too.
FWIW, I put this stuff on anything leather I buy, right away:
Great stuff.
Even fixes dry rot.
Good lord....:(
What was the cop’s excuse?
He “felt threatened”?
I wish you’d come police the local PetSmart and PetCo, then.
If I had a dollar for every dragging handle I’ve snagged as it went flying by.....LOL
If they’ve got correct heating provided, a basement is a great place for a snake room.
It’s dark, humid and not prone to excess vibrations.
Unfortunately, my “basement” is a creepy dirt root cellar dug nearly 300 years ago.
With the indigenous snakes who live down there, there’d be a huge conflict of interest...LOL
My Dumerils Boa, being cannibalistic by nature, ~might~ enjoy it.
The Colombian Boa, believing that he is actually a human unfairly trapped in a snake body, would definitely -not-.
He watched the debates with us just now and threw a hissy fit when it was time for him to go back into his split-level BoaCondo.
He’d curled up behind ‘daddy’ with his head on the chair arm and was quite happily watching TV when “bad guy Mom” said “time for bed”.
Had a rip of a time getting him to let go of my arm after I’d placed him back into his home.
[spoiled brat]
;D
I’m thinking specifically of the prong collars sold by PetSmart and PetCo.
They’re cheaply made in China, prone to ‘popping apart’ and the prongs themselves have -machine cut- sharp, rough ends, not the smoothly polished prongs Herm Sprenger uses.
I don’t want anybody here unwittingly *stabbing* their dear pups.
The money difference is only about $10.
The *quality* difference is immeasurable.
I’ve known people who put their Chows, Huskies, Collies and GSDs [and other thick-coated breeds] in the garage or basement at night, especially in the winter.
Indoor winter temperatures can be hard on those breeds.
My parents’ Chow was -miserable- inside in the winter.
They let him stay out on the closed in porch whenever he wanted and he could still look through the storm door and keep a watchful eye on them without getting overheated.
