"I toss a pack of canning jar lids into my cart each time I’m at Walmart. I’ve used lids that are 30 years old and still seal well."

Me too.

Did you notice that a packet of 12 went from $1.50 to $1.68 recently.

I buy canning jars at garage sales for 10 cents each. I have 20+ cases (12 per case) of jars now.

canning lids- try the reusable ones, I bought 6 boxes last summer. They work just fine and have been around since the 70's BPA free too.

Can’t Afford It? No Problem. Just Charge It.

"Consumers increased their debt in November by a seasonally adjusted $20.4 billion, the largest increase since November 2001, the Federal Reserve reports."

I store my jars in the garage in their boxes. The other day I needed a jar and opened a box of special jars only to find out it was empty. It should have been completely full. Someone stole my jars! I have others but that says something when canning jars are being stolen. Going through the garage to find out if anything else is missing is at the top of my spring cleaning list.

Yes I noticed that also. I did pick up a few packs for a dollar each on clearance at Tractor Supply last fall. I make my husband hot pepper butter and I've been thinking about selling it this year at our local farmer's market. Walmart has their Mainstays brand of pint jars for $5.50. Not a bad price considering they come with lids and rings. I think their quart jars are $6.50. I do need to stock up on more for my pepper butter project and for my personal use.

If they're quarts, that's a good number for a Midwestern family of three for the colder side of a year. ...extra for folks in the South. ...good advice.
