Friday January 6, 2012 will mark the 600th anniversary of the birth of Saint Joan of Arc. Mark Twain called Joan "the most extraordinary person the human race has ever produced and also said of her: "Love, Mercy, Charity, Fortitude, War, Peace, Poetry, Music--these may be symbolized as any shall prefer: by figures of either sex and of any age; but a slender girl in her first young bloom, with the martyr's crown upon her head, and in her hand the sword that severed her country's bonds--shall not this, and no other, stand for PATRIOTISM through all the ages until time shall end." Yes, we could definitely use a real Saint Joan today. Someone unselfish who would really fight for our freedom like Joan did.

Well her chapel is in Milwaukee. Moved to Marquette University from France years ago. What if the new Saint Joan is a Packer fan?

The stinking French didn’t deserve her.
The damn Dauphin didn’t lift one finger to save her. A truly ungrateful bastard. She gave him his throne and his nation. If she was fighting for the English or any other nation, an entire army would have blown away the Burgundians to rescue her.
The French haven’t changed their vile character in hundreds of years.

My book has not been in print for over a year so that is not my motivation. It is time Americans learn to fight for freedom and St. Joan is the ultimate example.

You continue to abuse the Breaking News sidebar and you’re gone.

When will God give Americans their Joan of Arc ? Would Americans accept her if God did? Or would they be like the Burgundians and sell her for ransom to the enemy>?

May apologies, I sincerely thought that the 600th birthday anniversary of Joan of Arc was real news.

God did give us and the world Billy Graham.
In our modern world we never look at the massive effect that Graham has had in spreading the Christian word and Christian Baptism, aside from Jesus himself, has anyone reached more people globally?

Ah yes, but when does anyone deserve the grace they receive?
That is why she is honored as a saint. Because she followed the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Who said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”(Mk 8:34)

Any time I encounter a self-described “atheist”, I ask them to explain Joan of Arc.
They can’t.

We had one: George Washington.
Joan of Arc was the “Creation Story” for the nation of France.
England has several... Robin Hood and King Arthur for example.
There are a lot of semi-mythical stories about George Washington that serve the purpose for us.
Just a theory of mine and not intended as a comment on Joan’s sainthood.

if a Joan of Arc came to the USA today, she would be treated the same as the French treated her back then.
The shelf life of heros is short. The MSM would dig into every nook while the GOP would sell her out rather than risk upsetting the applecart.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I totally agree: what an inspiration she is to this day. Her courage was exemplary (reminds me of White Rose).
