Rick Perry: "I am Returning to Texas"
Pundit Press ^ | 1/4/12 | Aurelius

In a campaign speech late Tuesday night, Governor Rick Perry stated that he is "returning to Texas" to reassess whether he is going to continue running for President.

The speech contained several emotional moments, in particular two moments. The first was when he read a letter from an adoring supporter who called him a "great man." The letter described a conversation that Mr. Perry had had with a soldier and how his supporter looked on in awe as he watched Governor Perry call the veteran his "Christian brother."

The second was when Perry announced that he would be returning to Texas to reassess whether he will continue his pursuit for the White House. Mr. Perry paused several times and appeared to be on the verge of tears as he winded down his speech.

Governor Perry came in fifth place in the Iowa caucus today, barely breaking ten percent of the vote. His announcement tonight likely marks the end to his campaign.

“A little different. Perry fans did not have any bragging rights. The Santorum supporters do.”

LOL, with the giggle that afforded, I’m off to bed. God bless Governor Rick Perry. I’ll be proud to support him in any national office he seeks in the future. Texas, you’re blessed to have such a governor!

Wait, just a few days ago Gingrich supporters were saying, before single vote had been cast, that we had to vote for RINO Gingrich, because no real conservative could beat Romney. Well, now a real conservative beat RINOs Romney and Gingrich. Now the rules have changed?

Face it, voters have started to question the media creation that Gingrich is a conservative. The media should not be allowed to foist Gingrich on the GOP>

This is good news for Gingrich. Now he can make his version of “Inconvenient Truth,” and win the Nobel Prize. It’s only fair, because he was fighting “climate change,” before Al Gore ever heard of it.

I put illegals at the top of my list of things that must be fixed if this country is to survive. If we don’t get this fixed, we will go bankrupt even faster than we already are.

They are literally sucking us dry. Any candidate who puts illegals ahead of citizens will NOT get my vote. Calling me “heartless” is just kicking me in the balls. Yep, that’s someone I want to support-NOT!

Do not misunderestimate the debilitating effect of chronic back pain (for which he had recent surgery?), if that is part of his problem

I'm fairly certain that chronic back pain has not made Perry support in-state tuition rates for illegal immigrants (criminals) for the past 10 years. I'm also certain it didn't make him insult those opposed to in-state tuition rates for criminals.

He wasn’t talking about his dead child (son, Gabriel) tonight, he was talking about his disabled daughter, Isabella.

Entering a presidential race so soon after surgery harmed Perry. Same thing happened to Pete Wilson, former Senator and Governor of California. He’d had throat surgery when he entered the race, and despite his background/resume, his campaign never got off the ground.

“Santorum is yapping it up about his dead daughter.”

He wasn’t talking about the baby girl who died, he was referring to their 3 year-old at home who has a disability.

Gabriel, the baby that died, was a boy for the record.

Are you saying that Rick Perry is not physically capable of being President? I don't like the guy, but even I wouldn't take such a cheap shot. Dollars to donuts he's in much better shape than Dick Cheney was when he was VP.

Perry calling people heartless because they didn't agree with him that illegal immigrants (criminals) should get in-state tuition rates hurt him far worse than any back pain.

I agree. He was too quick out of the shoot after his back surgery. No way I could endure the campaign trail with that weighing on me physically. Go home. Get some rest. Consider a VP spot.

Rick Perry was on the radio this afternoon - with Sean Hannity, I think. He was really doing well, answering every question in detail; smart, witty, forceful, and quick.

That was the version of Rick Perry missing at the debates. If that Rick Perry had shown up, he wouldn't have finished where he did and he would have sustained his early jump in the polls.

The lesson should be that it is much more difficult than it looks, and that if anything sidelines a candidate - illness, inexperience, anything; it can become impossible to come back.

I hope he learns from this, gets healthy if he needs to work on that aspect of his life, and comes back in four years.

The Roar Of The Masses Could Be Indigestion

Some things just won't stay swallowed.

I hope Mr. Perry stays in the race.
