Well, maybe it made Democrats look better than they really were.
The picture Perry paints is that of a Washington that works quite differently than the Washington that he has been making hay out of from the state end. Is he really willing to do that? Does he think he has the Congressional support or coat tails to bring this about?
Almost anyone, of course (except probably Obama) is better than Mitt Romney.
I just finished listening to Glenn Beck interview Gov. Perry on these same issues you raised. Listen to his responses here:

“What about Perry vs the other non-Romney candidates caused you to choose Perry?”
Well, I’ve been weighing several factors since last summer, and I live in Michele Bachmann’s district so I was initially a supporter of her’s. I also gave $ to her campaign. But when Perry got in, and Michele launched that hyperventilating Gardisil attack, I became convinced of what so many were saying, that she was a Romney stalking horse. Now, I’m more sure of that than ever, and very disappointed with her, especially having worked on past congressional campaigns and met her a couple of times.
So after her, I flirted with Cain for a while-even gave him some $-but of course we saw what happened to him.
I guess all along I was sort of considering Perry, but wanted to learn more about him. Being from MN, I honestly didn’t know alot-and of course I was not crazy about his instate tuition for illegals stance.
But looking at what’s left, I narrowed the choices down to Perry & Gingrich. I like Santorum too, but I just don’t think he’s got enough money/organization/stature, etc to win it.
What really sells me on Perry is he is to me the total package. He’s a guy with a proven record-everybody says they have a great record, but anyone can objectively look at Texas and say that job-wise (and I’m sure in many other ways too) they are the envy of the country under his watch.
Then I look at him as a social conservative, and find that not only is he every bit the social con as Bachmann & Santorum, he also is a praying person and has a deep love for Israel, which is very important to me. Then I watched his August 15 “Response” event where he preached for several minutes from scripture, then prayed for the president and our country, and I said to myself “this is our guy.” This man doesn’t just give lip service to conservative Christians, he IS a conservative Christian-in every sense of the word. In fact, he would make a great preacher once he’s done with politics.
Anyway, to sum it up-the accumulation of all I’ve learned about him from true, objective sources has convinced me that he just has much stronger character and I believe will be a better leader than Newt. I like Newt, like what he did in Congress, but he’s just got ALOT of baggage that would need to be overlooked to support him. Unlike with Romney, I could support Newt if he were the last man standing, I just feel much better supporting Perry.
Heres POWERFUL new video released today by the Perry campaign:
Oh. Thank you. I love it.
