Perry: On second thought, I oppose abortion in cases of rape and incest too

Is it worth debating his motive here? If you’re passionately pro-life, you’ll take him at face value because people do, after all, have sincere changes of heart and it’s nice to have another principled advocate in the fold. If you’re passionately pro-Perry, you’ll say it’s a shrewd move because it might help him get a second look from social conservatives in Iowa who are otherwise leaning towards Bachmann or Santorum. And if you’re anti-Perry, you’ll say this isn’t a Christmas miracle so much as an exceptionally cynical seven-days-before-the-caucuses “miracle.”

I’ll stick with Perry despite his apparent willingness to make a woman carry a child forced upon her by the commission of a heinous crime.

I am certain that this won’t win me many friends here, but I do not think that the unborn child has to come first in every single circumstance. A raped woman is just as innocent as an unborn child.

From ABC News:

excerpt:

“Asked if there was a defining moment in the DVD that inspired the change in his position, Perry cited a conversation he had with a woman featured in the movie who was conceived during a rape.

It was actually before it when the lady who was in the DVD was looking me in the eye and said, ‘You need to really think this through because,’ she said, ‘I am the product of a rape and,’ she said, ‘My life has worth.’ It was a powerful moment,” the Texas governor said to applause at the town hall.”

..............Now because he is doing poorly in Iowa, he is going against what he believes, that killing babies is cool, he changes his mind 7 days before Iowa. I can’t see how anyone could trust this guy. I have thought he was a fraud from almost day one and it appears that I am more right every day.

Well naps, I think that you have finally gone too far.

Well if you are going to kill babies if someone is rape than I guess you are liberal like him. I will “go to far” to ensure that people stop killing babies.

I tried to tell FR what Rick was like right before an election, but nooooo, I got hollered at. This is typical of him. He's liberal until he holds his finger up to see which way the wind is blowing and suddenly turns conservative if that's what's going to get the votes. RINO to the core.

Newt Gingrich has the exact same Catholic position on abortion that Santorum has. No abortion of any type. Not for any reason.

Will such a change in position (a few days prior to Iowa) work, backfire, or not even matter?

It won't matter. By and large the pro-life movement and other socials as well as the anti-illegal alien Americans have already written him off and consider his campaign to be irrelevant. He's toast. Time to cash in his chips and mosey on back to Austin.

That's the Rick Perry I know all too well.

I heard some discussion on this on the radio earlier. It seems Gov Perry was shown some new dvd that changed his mind on the topic. Didn’t hear more than that. Maybe others know more about the subject dvd.

I will give Gov. Perry the benefit of the doubt on this, as I know several people who changed their minds after seeing “The Silent Scream.” God knows, my own pro-life sentiments were confirmed and cemented the second the image of our first-born appeared on a fetal monitor screen.

You have a good day. There is no point in me debating somewhat who is essentially illiterate and fundamentally deficient in cognitive reasoning.

I fully understand abortion is the termination of a human life. And let me tell you you’re talking to a former Roe .v. Wade ex- liberal democrat here. Abortion in cases of rape and incest considered as an alternative to not having an abortion. And that consideration is the province of the woman who has being affected in the first place. It’s a horrible thing to have happen and to have to consider. lets not get into semantics. I fail to see what ‘’God’’ is being appeased in such an awful situation i.e ‘’the virgins into the volcano thing.

You know something? As horrible as abortion is, make no mistake it is the termination of a life, and I’m a former ‘’pro-lifer’’(you know what that is a code word for, right?) none of us can do anything to stop it. Only pray for the unborn. And pray women aren’t ever the victims of rape and incest.

I'm not pro-life, always. I am against killing babies, always.

But rapists? Meh... I'm ok with a very, very late term, short rope, tall tree 'termination'.

Actually anybody who stops and thinks about it and who is following the polls won't be wondering about the timing of Perry's "transformation".

Rick Perry is simply trying to be a bigger Conservative than his latest threat. Santorum has already went on the record before now as being opposed to abortion in cases of rape and incest. Santorum is putting a lot of pressure on Perry.

If Perry pulls out a fourth-place finish, it's not going to be good, but it's salvageable. If Santorum passes him up at the last minute, it's going to look extremely bad. I expect Perry to have another "transformation" or two before next week's primary.

It's really a crazy primary when Rick Perry is being threatened in the polls by Rick Santorum.
