You are 100% correct about Romney, but you have not carried out the thought to completion- that is the exact reason they WANT Romney- but they want to wait until he is the nominee before using it

Say that the GOP does not give them Romney. Say the GOP nominates Gingrich instead. Having groomed the field with evidence that Gingrich and Romney are like-minded in the pursuit of socialized health care, how does their end game change? Don't they still win even if they don't get their first choice candidate? How are conservatives not left holding the bag when we run out of goodies for the hand-out generation through nominating Gingrich in lieu of Romney?
