Reference: Anonymous is the name of a collective group of activist hackers who originally posted videos scheduling the Occupy Wall Street protests. These videos spread virally and played a significant role in the O.W.S. grassroots campaign.
The hacker collective Anonymous says it has stolen four thousand emails, passwords and credit card details from a US-based security think-tank Stratfor.
Stratfors clients include the US Department of Defense, US Air Force, Apple, law enforcement agencies and media organizations.
Anonymous said the list it had posted was a small slice of the 200 gigabytes worth of plunder it stole from Stratfor and promised more leaks. It said it was able to get the credit card details partially because Stratfor didnt bother encrypting them.
Hackers said the goal was to charge funds from individuals accounts to give away as Christmas donations to charities. This act is in theme with the message of the Occupy Wall Street movement and the act was obviously not accidentally done on Christmas.

Until systems are hardened and unbreakable, data will be stolen. Each theft teaches a little more.
Stratfor's bottom line is going to suffer for this.
Were I a customer, I'd have already called my lawyer seeking to sue for damages.
Remember, OWS and Obama are one and the same! He said so himself!
bttt
“..Remember, OWS and Obama are one and the same! He said so himself!..”
:::::::::::::::
Yes, with all resources (semi-legal) paid for by the taxpayer. The rest by George Soros. Don’t forget this in Novmember 2012.
A security think tank. Non encrypted accounts. I think this will throw a wet towel on their reputation.
..Remember, OWS and Obama are one and the same! He said so himself!..
..and don’t forget whose job it is to prosecute the perps: Eric Holder , of the Dept. of “Just-us”.
It will become a ‘daisey-chain’ of obviscation.
A taste of what will happen during the investigation is evident just as much as the’investigation’ into “Fast and Furious”.
Really? Theft is good?
People working there expected their personal information was properly encrypted. Now they're going to have their personal data and finances distributed world wide not because of their refusing to protect themselves, but because the employer didn't do so. And that's "a good thing" ?? Are you ****ing kidding?
Not a bit.
Eastern European programmers (gangs, really) are ripping Americans off to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars every year and the banks and credit card companies stay quiet about it to protect reputation.
High profile thefts like this, on the other hand, force action to be taken by those who provide web commerce.
Sorry for the victims, of course, but security evolution works in just this way.
We defeated the Japanese and Germans in WWII in part by breaking their codes. I doubt we could replicate that action today because of the evolution of military security.
OK, so innocent Mr Smith, working with Stratfor, should find his financial situation trashed and suffer because of Stratfor’s foolish actions? I hope that never happens to you. No, maybe it should.
Stratfor should be out of business because of this. It's called "thinning the herd".
If a company does not put security first and something like this happens then it is up to the customers to seek redress, eh?
It is childish to wail about the victims after the crime.
Done is done.
Thanks so much for your melodramatic input, though.
Glenn, I’ve been there. I keep a close eye on my finances and still had it all trashed because of a particular company leaving info available. But no sense arguing it with you.
Enjoy your holidays!
BS
Supporting or promoting any crime is never a good thing simply because unbreakable/theft proof is an illusion.
Why then should the very specialized software involved in security be any more reliable?
Robin Hood might want to re- think strategy here. I do not have a stratfor account, but folks who look at intel might, just might be armed. To the teeth. Touch a dime of the wrong person’s money, you will be found. You might not want to be found like that, especially if you want to stay anonymous.
