LOL! I like okra!
Good for you. I think okra must be like root beer. It's something you have to grow up with to appreciate.
Not long after getting married, my wife and I moved from Ohio to Houma, LA where I had taken a job with an oil services company. That was where both of us had out first experience with the regional delicacy okra. At first, it was nauseating! Over time, we both developed an ability to eat it in order to not appear rude and better fit in amongst locals.
She eventually did much better than I with the stewed okra. I have to grudgingly admit that some fried okra dishes I had were not bad but they were never what I would call good because of the association with stewed okra.
