Tell me about it! I teach 5th grade and these kids don't even know their ADDITION fact families, let alone their multiplication facts!!!!! I have already told my principal that I expect to retain several of my kids. I gave a long division test on Thurs. (1 digit divisor only!) and I got maybe 5 A's or A+’s, a couple C's and D's and the rest were F's!!! We've been on this since THANKSGIVING! I give a 1 min. timed test (multiplication) at the beginning of each math lesson and they're COUNTING ON THEIR FINGERS! The scores are abysmal. I send notes/letters home pleading with parents to get their kids flashcards and DRILL every night, most kids still don't have them. I've even taken a couple of class hours having them make flashcards so they can at least work with them in school during the day, but it's just not enough without working at home. I'm SO ready to be done with it!
