You are on to something.
One of the most valuable barter items you have is skills.
Stuff is good, but skills get you stuff that you can trade for more stuff.
My Dad taught me welding, basic carpentry, plumbing, auto repair, roofing, electrical work, first aid, cooking and a bunch of other stuff. Recently I taught myself how to make bread from scratch. Not an easy task, but doable.
I am passing those skills down to my kids. When the shtf, they will be very valuable people.
