Poll Asks Free Republic: What Is The Most Dangerous Threat To The United States?
12/21/2011 | Chris Davis

With all of the talk of Ron Paul’s foreign policy, we wanted to know what is the most dangerous threat to the United States today. As usual, we go to the finest gathering of conservatives minds found on the internet. We go to Free Republic. We would love to know if Iran is the greatest threat. Is China the greatest threat? Is Barack Obama and the Democrat Party the greatest threat? Or is it the Republican Establishment that’s the greatest threat?

Hard question to answer.

Because of Obama’s stupidity or on purpose, he has given China and her allies (Iran) a definite advantage against the US and Israel that they didn’t have 3 years ago when they were still inside their box.

They all see Obama as the impotent punk that he is.

We need a Christian revival to sweep the United States (and then the world). The secular life which this country espouses is the greatest danger to its continued existence.

“What is the most dangerous threat to the United States today?”

The most dangerous threat comes from Obama and his Marxist globalist cadre supported by the ‘journolistas’ who have infested our federal government. Their ideology is foreign and a dire threat to our constitutional form of government.

Look what they have done to our entire system starting with their avoidance of annual budgets, their economy destroying spending programs and their overall dictatorial enforcement of their Marxist ideology and regulations on our way of life. Along with the 111th Congress they expressed their arrogance when they talked down to us by telling us that “they won”. The only time they brought up the word, “compromise” was when we voted in a GOP majority in the 112th Congress.

The media is masking their intrusion upon our government. Don’t fall for their ‘political correction’ techniques that serves to point the finger at our tradition as though it were some kind of absurdity. We’d had better take off our blinders and speak out, better yet, start yelling as loudly for all to hear because we have about run out of time.

One of the difficulties with modern politics is that there isn't, at the moment, a single immediate existentialist threat to the United States of America. There is, as others have pointed out, the danger of slow erosion, of the corrosive effects of political corruption, of the transformational effects of a persistent popular social philosophy that works against the individualism that built the country and in favor of a collectivism that will suck its achievements and surpluses dry.

Let us list some of these second-tier threats. In the arena of foreign affairs there is very little. Expansionist Islam broke its teeth in an overt military confrontation and despite gale winds of gassy propaganda has proven incapable even of regional hegemony when opposed by a vastly outnumbered but technically superior and determined force. Revolutionary Communism proved a suicidally expensive indulgence for nations promoting it, and that, recall, was supposed to be New Age warfare-on-the-cheap. Iran and Venezuela are re-learning that lesson in the respect of militant Islam and Communism, respectively. Cuba is a basket case because of it.

Domestically there are serious matters. A demographic invasion from the south of a population that declines assimilation is a far more serious matter than most liberal commentators are willing even to consider. Previous immigrant populations produced wealth. This one consumes it. Huge difference.

I would add the curious but predictable advent of a true ruling class. The magic of American society has always been class mobility. That has this potential flaw: the advent of a class that forms a de facto aristocracy. This always happens in Communist nations (see Milovan Djilas on the topic), nearly always in democracies (see Thucydides on the topic), and with tragic frequency in what started off as representative republics. The latter are guarded against it by the fact that actual wielders of government power are elected, but when that safeguard is evaded by the advent of a governmental structure whose members are not elected, representative government is lost and we are back to the feudal model, wherein it is good to be King, marvelous to be a Lord, very hell to be the producer who must support their pretensions. Only the least permanent and most vulnerable members of this ruling class are subject to election.

But the biggest threat to the United States of America is its own people, and that is precisely as predicted by the Founders, both Federalist and anti-Federalist. We will get the government we deserve. We will live in a society whose mores are dictated by the loudest and most insistent, because we have so empowered them in the mistaken belief that if we allow everyone's voice to be heard, they will do the same. We will fall from fools who think that the inequities of society mandate that one set of rules for all must be replaced by special rules for special people.

We've had an awfully good run. There may be quite a bit of it left. Or not.

Unfortunately, you are correct.

The public schools are the chief engine of American Socialism, and they are succeeding in their aim.

It’s a tragedy.
