Those who do not learn from the past (and lets face it thats most of us) are condemned to repeat it. When I was 15 years old my parents made me read the biography of Charles Ponzi. They felt that if I learned about this scammer it would help protect me in the future, when I would hopefully make my fortune. What I learned from that book, is that if something is too good to be true, it generally is. While I cant say that Ive never been scammed, I will say that I havent been scammed too badly, other than by Wall Street.
And this ties in perfectly with our current economic and social state of affairs. An article I read is calling the Treasury Market The Last Ponzi Scheme. The US Treasury Market is booming largely because of the financial turmoil in Europe. This has led to a rush to buy Treasury Securities as a so-called safe haven. While this formula seems to be working right now, driving prices up and interest rates down, it wont last forever. The US Dollar is the best looking horse in the glue factory. When Europe is resolved, and it eventually will be, attention will turn back to the Buck and everything it stands for. And when people see theres nothing behind the curtain but a printing press, it will be game over.
when I was 15 my father was busting his @$$ traveling into the city to work as a NYPD cop everyday....when he got home he would tell me things like get a good education so you dont have to bust your butt everyday like him(he really did not bust his butt too much...just other people's.)....he also cautioned me to not knock anybody up....but he did get me to read the ‘Bounty’ trilogy and Kon Tiki....
We can see evidence of this with the RHINOS eating thier own. We know what to expect from the criminals in charge and now we see it with our own. What does this mean? They are all sleeping together in the same bed. You take 2 terms and then we take two terms, you blame us and we are the bad guys and then we will blame you and now you are the bad guys. They are all of the same criminal enterprise that have thier hands on everything and we are the pawns who entertain this game every 4 years. 2012 will be a good start by booting out this cretan and replacing him with
anyone we can work with but the job is not complete and we will have to hold thier a##es to the fire and not fall asleep while we work behind the scenes to make changes right down to the local levels
When I was 15, I lied about my age to get a part-time job because I knew I wanted a car once I turned 16, and my Dad explained that it wasn’t free and it wasn’t his job to attend to my wants - only my needs (and that was a temproary deal). Never been without the proverbial two nickles to rub together since.
same with me....I graduated high school young(17) friends in college had full time jobs working evenings(3:30 to 11:30) at the state mental hospital....basically you were just there to make sure they didnt kill each other and had time to do homework etc......I lied about my age by 1 year and within weeks my father cosigned a loan for me and I bought a brand new Plymouth Satellite...I was the coolest 17 year old on the block....like you I have always worked till 2 years back when it caught up with me...all the work that is....I took early retirement. but no mater what the economy I ALWAYS had one job or another(or 2 or 3 jobs) and was not ashamed to take menial jobs when that was all there was available....
I started my first job at 14 working in a pizza shop for cash. I had a car by 17.
