I have been put in charge of handling my significant other's affairs. He was a Viet Nam vet, disabled, very orgnized, kept everything. I cannot find the titles to the vehicles. I have huge files of recipts, medical records, every magazine he ever received, as well as catalogs. But I cannot seem to find the titles.
For example, he had 25 stocking caps. They were all in one box, except for the one he was wearing, and labeled as such. He had 69 pairs of shoes, they were in plastic totes, rubber bands around them and labeled, totes with either duck tape or velcro. We did not live together so I am at a disadvantage.
I am assumming that the titles are together and in one place. Does anyone have any experience with finding stuff after the loved one is gone?
They’re probably in the garage somewhere...all in one safe place.
Thank you kindly.
Yes there was a safety deposit box. One of the keys was taped to the inside top of the tool chest and the other was in a bank bag.
Inside the safety deposit were: 1. his birth certificate and 2. a gold antique pocket watch.
Thanks for responding.
He banked at only one bank, but I thought I might check with the other ones. There are no papers from the other ones.
Gloveboxes......not there.
Thanks for responding.
I have about 25 keys that I have no idea where they go. He was a driver for the Amish. He had wrecked about 7 vans and they were junked right away. Usually before I was told about it. He would have had to clean them out, not me.
He had a two car garage and a 4 car garage that was full. It has taken me about 4 months to get through all this stuff.
I asked the bank and they gave me the dates that the titles were mailed.
I’m equally sorry for your loss. I’m still in shock and it was July 18. I think I’ve been through everything. The last thing was the safety deposit box, but only the birth certificate and a pocket watch.
Mine actually died of pneumonia complicated with a bad heart. We are still shaking our heads.
I think you are on the right track. His sister says she sent him papers about the life insurance policy and I have not found those either. He had a huge filing cabinet and it was pretty much full. I have been through everything. I think the most important papers are still missing.
I felt the discovery of the safety deposit key in the top of the tool chest was good. But he had not been in that box since June 6, 2008. I did get the high school diploma but he never reguarded that as valuable.
I never saw or heard of him having a safe.
Thanks for your response.
I have all the papers from the lawyers and from the children so my ducks are in a row. I just can’t find what should be there.
Thanks for your response.
I mean little keys that look mysterious. Not car keys.
I got very excited when I found a mysterious little key on my Dad’s keyring after he passed away; it turned out to be for the fork lock on his Raleigh bicycle!
Went to BMV today. They were most helpful and for 74.00 I got two duplicates on the ones I could not find, and plates for the one I want to keep.
The secretary and I went through the last two boxes and found nothing. So I suppose they will all turn up tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone.
Funny thing, the one that I absolutely could not locate, the Jeep, he had applied and received a duplicate in 2004. So I should find two titles on that one. The one that I did have was a duplicate that was sent after he passed away. He had applied for it a few days before when he wrecked it.
