I have one for Hong Kong. It's mandatory for China and it's SARs. I breeze through immigration by going through a kiosk.

Beijing has a better understanding of how many people make up their population. Where as we just guess with the census.

Pros and cons to the ID card here in the US.

It wont be used to prosecute illegal immigrants here in the US, but to punish US Citizens.

You think standing in line at the DMV is aggravating, wait till you have to go to the DHS for your Real ID.

If you don't have your ID, you're a non-person subject to detention at any time until suitable paperwork can be obtained (with no sense of urgency).

"Where are your papers" is the core of communism, fascism, and other brutal tyrannies. Requiring ID 24/7 (he11, at all for anything but the most narrow need) is at profound opposition to fundamental American principles.

With a "con" like that, I don't care what the "pro" is.
