Donna, Consider a Remington 870 and get some 00 buckshot shells. Cabela's had them on sale for 3.90 for 5 shells recently. The Cheaper than dirt website usually has bargains as well. Good luck!

A shotgun is a terrific home defense choice regardless of your size. Being on the smaller side, you might consider a 20 gauge instead of a 12. There are plenty of premium defense loads for 20’s that will kill em just as dead as a shoulder crushing 12 gauge.

You’ve received some good comments on the guns, you might also look at the mossbergs. Good guns and inexpensive. Do not get one without a full stock. The shotguns with only a hand grip look cool in the movies but most people don’t have the strength to use them. 12ga with tactical loads are management for my wife who is your size. 20ga is a little lighter.

Don’t forget some training and practice. I’m also in Florida and while nobody has taken shots at my house yet I’m sure its coming as soon as I put a sign out for a non-leftist.
