Texas is an elite program, Texas A&M is not.

I guess you're right. Funding disparities won't allow A&M to buy the kind of coaching staff UT has.

“Funding disparities won’t allow A&M to buy the kind of coaching staff UT has.”

The entirety of the coaching staff’s salaries are not paid from the school’s general fund, but from the school’s athletic fund. It just so happens that the Texas’ program raises more money than any other program in the nation.

As for coaches, I would agree that Mack Brown is overpaid at $5,000,000 a year, but at least he gets results and has won a BCS Championship as well as Big 12 Championships and has been in BCS games.

On the other hand, the A&M’s Mike Sherman is also overpaid at $2,200,000 per year and has a losing record while never sniffing a Big 12 Championship and never even dreaming of a BCS game, much less a championship.

The bottom line is that The Texas Longhorns have a winning program and if that trend falters, Texas will find a new coach and will be able to pay any price for that coach and will always be a winning program.
