I had the “luck” (short-straw kind) of riding one of the LHD’s for ten days from SD to Pearl. I was on board as a subject matter expert consultant during the “Trident Warrior” exercise that year.
I came away with a brand new sense of respect for deployed sailors after that. Getting around on those ships is not as easy as you would think - they are mazes. Trying to find a working toilet would be quite stressful if you were “under duress” (so to speak).
Spent a chunk of my life in the Army; friends with some Marines; got to experience a brief period living like a sailor... Now, when teens ask me if they should serve, I immediately, strongly, with no caveat, recommend the Air Force.
