I dont really expect many will get out, but they will never be able to re-enter society as is the case with the failed catch and release policy so prevalent in our justice, excuse my faux pas, legal system. And eliminating repeat offenders is good for our citizens and society.
If eliminating the repeat offenders also opens up attractive opportunities for new offenders, I don't see much net benefit. I think your relegalization proposal is the better way to go.
Now it’s down to what the citizenry will accept. I know from my perspective it is going to be a very difficult sale with those in my field. The whole legal system and all it’s participants, from corner lookout to Federal Judge is a player in this drama and so many benefit from it’s continuation. I am not even sure what the consequences could be with so many suddenly out of work, as it were, other than the Constitution restored, and perhaps that’s the most important part.
It took me realizing that I was not the morality police, just the police. Thousands of people are being killed every year over this nonsense, to include my colleagues. I would like to see a cessation of hostilities during my lifetime.
